Indianapolis April 16, 2020 – Hours after having a teleconference with all 50 United States Governors about reopening the country, President Donald Trump along with members of The Coronavirus Task Force Team made their way into the Press Briefing Room at The White House.

Joining POTUS for today’s brief was Vice President Mike Pence, Dr. Debroah Birx, Dr. Anthony Fauci, CDC Director Dr. Robert Redford and FDA Commissioner Dr. Stephen Hahn.

Trump, only used a few words to describe the Wuhanvirus as a cruel virus from a distant land. According to President Trump, due to the Wuhanvirus spreading so quickly, the United States has now built the most robust testing system in the world. “We have now completed more than 3.5 million tests for the COVID-19 virus in the United States,” Trump announced. President Trump made reference to the guidelines that were implemented by his administration and the Task Force, which has saved hundreds of lives. “Through it all we have seen the heroism of our medical community and our citizens in a national endeavor,” Trump remarked.

Trump explained how the United States has started to get the Wuhanvirus under control and that more than 850 counties or nearly 30 percent of the country have reported no new cases in the last seven days. “Our experts say the curve has flattened and the peak in new cases is behind us,” Trump said. “It’s not quite mission accomplished, but it’s a big statement,” he added.

“Now is the time for the next front of this war, reopening our Country to preserve our health, we must preserve our economy,” Trump announced. “The balance is delicate and we must have a working economy.” Trump went on to explained how theres a potential for a sharp rise in drug and alcohol abuse, suicides and heart disease if the economic shutdown is prolonged. “Our country has suffered. Our world has suffered,” he noted.

The 1st part of the new guidelines for Opening Up America Again is that Governors of states will take a phased and deliberate approach to opening their states meaning healthy Americans will now be allowed to return to work as long as the conditions on the ground allow. “We are not opening up all at once, but one careful step at a time,” Trump explained. “We’re starting our life again. We’re starting rejuvenation of our economy again in a safe and structured and a very responsible fashion,” he added.

President Trump finished his remarks with high praise for Vice President Pence, Dr. Birx, Dr. Fauci and everyone involved on the Wuhanvirus Task Force Team.

“We will bring our country back and it will be bigger and better and stronger than ever.” – President Donald Trump

Vice President Pence praised the new guidelines for Opening Up America Again. “The federal guidelines that will be given to Governors begin with looking for a downward trajectory over 14 days in new Coronavirus cases, along with states having the proper capacity in their health care facilities,” Pence noted. “This is the product of the best science and the best common sense,” Pence added. According to the VP, more than 640,000 Americans have now contracted the Coronavirus and more than 31,000 Americans have died from the disease.

Dr Birx couldn’t stressed enough, “We want every state to have a plan for its workers in critical industries.” Dr. Birx explained each step in the new guidelines for Opening Up America Again.

Dr. Fauci stressed how important these 3 phases are. “Progress through the phases will be staggered. You don’t get to phase one until you get through the gate,” he explained. Along with stressing how important the 3 phases of the new guidelines are, Dr Fauci also said, “Each state will progress on its own schedule.” He’s confident that sooner or later , he hopes sooner that “We can get back to some form of normality.”

After everyone’s remarks, POTUS opened the press brief up to the media for questions.
