Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has come out against a Texas-style law that would protect babies from being slaughtered in the womb when their hearts are beating.

DeSantis and his staffers are making the argument that protecting babies turns private citizens against each other and because this is a contentious issue, it is better to let the children be murdered instead.

“Gov. DeSantis doesn’t want to turn private citizens against each other,” Christina Pushaw, a spokesperson for DeSantis, said to BuzzFeed News this week.

Previously, DeSantis played dumb and punted when he was approached by the media with his thoughts about the Texas law.

“What they did in Texas is interesting and I haven’t really been able to look at enough about it,” DeSantis said on Sept. 3. “They’ve basically done this through private right of action. So, it’s a little bit different than how a lot of these debates have gone, so we will have to look. I am going to look more significantly at it.”

Big League Politics has reported about the passage of the Texas law as Republicans in the state actually use their authority to protect life, for once:

A “heartbeat” abortion bill in the state of Texas has taken effect, effectively banning all abortions after six weeks.

Gov. Greg Abbott signed the bill back in May, though it only took effect Wednesday at midnight after the Supreme Court failed to act on an emergency appeal that would have temporarily blocked the law’s implementation.

The Associated Press has called the law “the most dramatic restriction on abortion rights in the United States since the high court’s landmark Roe v. Wade decision.” Several other states have passed similar laws before, but judges have blocked them while lawsuits proceed through the court system.

Texas’ law is unique because it allows civilians to sue abortion providers, procurers, and anyone else who assists in the process.

“Anyone who successfully sues another person would be entitled to at least $10,000,” according to the AP.

So-called “pro-choice” activist groups like the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) are freaking out and even pulling the race card.

DeSantis may not be the leader that many conservatives imagine him to be considering his unwillingness to stand up against the leftist culture of death.
